It reduces the secretion of water and electrolytes from the intestine. This helps to reduce the amount of fluid loss from the body in diarrhea.

Side Effects of Receca 100mg Capsule

Possible side effects may include headache, erythema multiforme, urticaria, and angioedema.

Quick Suggestions:

• Racecadotril should always be administered in conjunction with an oral rehydration solution (ORS) to ensure proper fluid and electrolyte replacement.
• Avoid using Racecadotril if you notice blood or pus in your stools, or if you have a fever. These symptoms may indicate a bacterial infection, which requires alternative treatment.
• Racecadotril should not be used for more than 7 days without consulting a doctor.
• Inform your healthcare provider if you have a history of kidney or liver problems before taking Racecadotril.
• Do not use Racecadotril if you are experiencing uncontrolled vomiting.

Indications of Receca 100mg Capsule

Indications Receca is prescribed for the symptomatic treatment of acute diarrhea.

Pharmacology

Receca contains a potent intestinal antisecretory agent. It works by reducing the excessive secretion of water and electrolytes in the intestines triggered by cholera toxin or inflammation, without affecting basal secretory activity.

Upon oral intake, Receca is quickly absorbed and metabolized into thiorphan, an enkephalinase inhibitor. Enkephalinase is a peptidase found in various tissues, including the small intestine epithelium. By inhibiting this enzyme, Receca protects enkephalins from degradation, extending their action at enkephalinergic synapses in the small intestine, and decreasing hypersecretion. This action leads to rapid relief from diarrhea without altering intestinal transit duration.

Pharmacology Racecadotril works by inhibiting membrane-bound enkephalinase, thereby increasing the availability of endogenous opioids (enkephalins). Enkephalins, in turn, activate δ opioid receptors, promoting selective chloride absorption by inhibiting adenylate cyclase.

Enkephalinase inhibition occurs within 30 minutes after administration.

Dosage & Administration of Receca 100mg Capsule

For Adults: Initially, take one capsule irrespective of the time of day, followed by one capsule three times daily before main meals.

For Children (from 3 months of age): Racecadotril granules should be administered with oral rehydration. The recommended dosage is based on body weight:

• Infants under 9 kg: One 10 mg sachet three times daily.
• Infants from 9 kg to 13 kg: Two 10 mg sachets three times daily.
• Children from 13 kg to 27 kg: One 30 mg sachet three times daily.
• Children over 27 kg: Two 30 mg sachets three times daily.

Interaction

No interactions have been observed with other drugs. Concurrent use of Receca with Loperamide or Nifuroxazide does not affect Receca's kinetics.

Contraindications

Receca should not be used in individuals with hypersensitivity to Racecadotril or any of its components.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Due to limited clinical data, Receca is not recommended for use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Precautions & Warnings

Receca does not alter standard rehydration regimens. Bloody stools and fever may indicate invasive bacteria or other severe conditions, warranting caution. It has not been tested for antibiotic-associated diarrhea and should not be used under these circumstances. Use caution in patients with renal or hepatic impairment.

Storage Conditions:

Store in a cool and dry place away from sunlight
